With another nice 70-degree day in the forecast I saw a chance to finish the hike I started at the end of December ’24, when high water levels encouraged me to turn around at crossing #11 (of 13) of Caney Creek.
I started at the west trail head and only needed to hike in about 2.5 miles to get to where I stopped before, then hike back. Despite some big rains in early April, the Vandervoort gauge for the Cossatot River was now down to 2.6′ versus 4′ for the last trip. That made a big difference as those last 3 Caney Creek crossings were now rock-hops. I did have to wade the Cossatot River but the water didn’t get much above mid-shin. The weather was great, the scenery was great, and I had a great lunch by the creek. Mission accomplished, and I try not to think about the fact I drove 6 hours to hike 5 miles.
I’ve published updated maps using the data from this trip.
