OHT Stack Rock Reroute

Construction of a 1-mile reroute around the May ’17 landslide near mile 152 of the Ozark Highlands Trail is nearly complete – close enough that a detour is no longer needed.

The OHTA established a base camp near the area and construction was scheduled for Jan 27 through Feb 4 but by Sunday afternoon – day #2 – we had a usable trail established and open for business.  On Monday we blazed the new trail, removed blazes from the abandoned trail, removed detour signs & blazes, and headed home.

We’ll be back out there on Feb 2 to set up camp again and work the 3rd and 4th to remove more roots, rocks, and stumps and improve the tread in general.  Participants receive a commemorative t-shirt plus one entry in a drawing for each day worked.  The prize is a Therm-a-rest mattress donated by Pack Rat Outdoor Center.

My maps will be updated in a day or two.
