Alum Cove Natural Bridge Geological Area

About 20 miles south of Jasper AR, the main feature here is the 130′ natural bridge.  There is a short trail down to the top of the bridge with a loop immediately below.  There is a large overhang adjacent to the bridge.  The two features formed a large cave until the center section of the roof collapsed.

Here I’m on top at one end, looking into the gap between the bridge on the left and the overhang on the right.AlumCove.20130527.004Here’s the view from below:AlumCove.20130527.052Standing underneath at one end, looking up:AlumCove.20130527.048

There is also a longer loop that takes you into the valley below the bridge and along a bluff before returning to the bridge.  The bluff has many interesting formations to explore.AlumCove.20130527.017 AlumCove.20130527.021 AlumCove.20130527.026 AlumCove.20130527.036The area includes several picnic tables with fire rings, at least one shelter, and a vault toilet.
