Though I’ve been a member of the Ozark Highlands Trail Association for over 4 years and done numerous work trips with them, I’d never been on one of their backpacking trips until this weekend – a one-nighter with 7 other members on the west half of section 4.
We met at the Lick Branch trail head. left a few cars there and shuttled over to Arbaugh Road – basically the mid-point of section 4 – and then hiked back toward Lick Branch. I first hiked this whole section 2.5 years ago and then hiked part of it a year later after a big rain to check out the numerous waterfalls between miles 66.5 and 70.5.
The water was greatly reduced this time so the falls weren’t so dramatic. What hasn’t changed is the terrific view of the Little Mulberry River valley from the vista near mile 61.5.
- The pool at Lynn Hollow
- The Little Mulberry overlook
- Sunrise creeps into the Little Mulberry valley
We hiked out about noon on Sunday and headed to the Oark Cafe for some world famous cheeseburgers.
