Wildcat Mountain – Take 2

It sure didn’t seem like 2 years had passed since my last visit to the Wildcat Mountain trails in the eastern Ouachitas between Lakes Sylvia and Winona. I hiked a couple short trails I missed last time, and was able to get into the southeastern area as the tornado damage I saw last time has been cleared.  My map of the area will soon be more complete.

There was a thunderstorm the night before that left the creeks running strong.  These all feed into the North Fork of the Saline River, which runs along the southern edge of the area.  I’ve recorded the locations of 20 creek crossings along these 10-12 miles of trail so you’re never far from a water source here.  Most crossings were rock-hops but twice I had to change into my Crocs and wade.
